Argentina Raises Manuel Belgrano Scholarships to ARS 187,495 per Month
BUENOS AIRES, Argentina — Argentina’s government has officially approved a significant increase in the monthly value of the Manuel Belgrano Scholarships, raising the benefit to ARS 187,495 per month for eligible students.
The measure was formalized through Resolution 544/2026 of the Education Secretariat. It was published in the Official Gazette on Friday, August 28, 2026.
Importantly, the new amount applies retroactively from the June 2026 installment. Therefore, beneficiaries covered by the measure will receive the updated value from that period.
The government said the adjustment aims to strengthen financial support for students pursuing careers considered strategic for Argentina’s productive, scientific and technological development.
Manuel Belgrano Scholarship Rises to ARS 187,495
The latest adjustment represents another major change to the Manuel Belgrano Scholarship amount this year.
When the 2026 program was launched, the monthly scholarship was initially set at ARS 81,685. The government authorized a 50% increase in June, bringing the amount to ARS 122,527.
Now, Resolution 544/2026 raises the monthly payment again.
As a result, beneficiaries will receive ARS 187,495 per month.
Compared with the previous ARS 122,527 payment, this represents an increase of ARS 64,968 per month, or roughly 53%.
Compared with the original 2026 amount of ARS 81,685, the latest value is approximately 129.5% higher.
Increase Applies Retroactively From June
One of the most important points is the effective date.
Although the new resolution was published on August 28, the government established that the ARS 187,495 amount applies from the installment corresponding to June 2026.
The measure follows an expansion of budget funding for scholarships authorized under Decree 594 of July 15, 2026.
According to the official resolution, that additional funding made it possible to increase the monthly value of the program.
The cost will be covered through the Ministry of Human Capital’s budget for higher education development.
Up to 36,000 Scholarships Available in 2026
The 2026 call for the National Strategic Scholarships Program Manuel Belgrano established a maximum quota of 36,000 scholarships.
Resolution 159/2026 launched this year’s program and established the rules for new applicants and renewals.
The program primarily seeks to support university students enrolled in areas considered essential for Argentina’s development.
These strategic fields include energy and hydrocarbons, mining and geosciences, logistics and infrastructure, agroindustry and biotechnology.
Information technology and systems control are also included. The program additionally covers certain teaching programs and careers in exact and natural sciences.
Why Argentina Increased the Scholarship
The government considers the Manuel Belgrano Scholarships an instrument for helping students enter and remain in higher education.
The program focuses on fields linked to the country’s productive and scientific priorities.
Earlier in June, the Ministry of Human Capital announced a 50% adjustment to the scholarship following an agreement involving the University Policies Secretariat, the National Interuniversity Council and university unions.
That decision produced the previous ARS 122,527 monthly payment.
However, the latest resolution goes further. The government has now officially replaced that amount with ARS 187,495 from June onward.
What Beneficiaries Will Receive
For beneficiaries, the most important figure is straightforward: the Manuel Belgrano Scholarship is now worth ARS 187,495 per month.
The increase applies from June 2026 rather than from the August publication date.
This distinction matters because the resolution gives the adjustment retroactive effect.
The scholarship program remains focused on students at public universities who meet its academic, socioeconomic and program-specific requirements.
With the new increase, the government aims to bring financial assistance closer to current educational needs while encouraging students to continue studying in strategic fields.
