De la Espriella Changes His Inauguration Plan

The De la Espriella Inauguration will no longer take place at a military base. President-elect Abelardo de la Espriella asked Congress to move the ceremony to Cali before the August 7 inauguration.

He made the request after several weeks of political debate. Moreover, legal experts questioned whether a military base could host the constitutional ceremony.

Government Rejects the Military Base Proposal

De la Espriella originally wanted to hold the De la Espriella Inauguration at a military facility. He said the location would recognize the work of Colombia’s armed forces.

However, President Gustavo Petro rejected the proposal. Instead, he instructed military officials not to prepare any facilities for the event while he remained commander-in-chief.

Cali Becomes the Preferred Location

The president-elect now wants Cali to host the De la Espriella Inauguration. Local officials welcomed the proposal and expressed their readiness to support the event.
