Intermezzo presents the world premier of "The Inman Diaries"

Boston , MA - Intermezzo: The New England Chamber Opera Series brings its sixth commissioned opera to the stage with "The Inman Diaries" by noted Cambridge composer Thomas Oboe Lee, on a libretto by Jesse J. Martin, Sept 14-16 at Mass College of Art's Tower Auditorium, Boston , MA .  Inman's work has been chronicled by Harvard professor Daniel Aaron and presented as a play (Visitations) by Lorenzo DeStefano.  The premier of the opera is produced in cooperation with Harvard University Press.

The opera tells the story of this fascinating and often conflicted man.  His observations of the world around him come to life from actual journal entries and through conversations with many of the central characters in his life.  The 2-act work is scored for 9 singers and 7 instruments, lasting approximately 2 hours.  The Inman Diaries will feature some of Boston's most notable singers, including Ray Bauwens in the title role, Gale Fuller as his wife Evelyn Yates Inman, John Whittlesey as Inman's physician Dr. Pike, Kristen Watson as his "adopted" daughter Kathy, Cheryl Medeiros Nancarrow as Flossie Bert, Erica Brookhyser as Therese, Joei Marshal Perry as Ella James, the civil rights advocate, Jason McStoots as Billy, Inman's devoted friend and the handyman of Garrison Hall, and Sepp Hammer as Otto, Inman's irreverent valet and driver.  Intermezzo's music director James Busby will conduct, Andrew Ryker serves as stage director, and William A. Fregosi returns to design the sets and lighting.

Performances are September 14 & 15, 2007 at 8 pm , and September 16, 2007 at 3 pm .  Tickets are $25-adults; $20-seniors; $15-students. Reserved seating for patrons is limited. Call 617-899-4261 for reservations, or see www.intermezzo-opera.org for more information.  Parking is available on the street or at the MFA garage; green line T accessible via Longwood or MFA stops.

About the company - Intermezzo: The New England Chamber Opera Series was born out of a vision to produce contemporary chamber operas and bring new and exciting works to the musical life of New England. Chamber opera merges the musical and dramatic flavor of grand opera with the immediacy of art song, performed on a smaller, more intimate scale.  Intermezzo has commissioned six chamber operas and produced twenty.  In 2006, their production of Britten’s " Curlew River " was named Best Staged Opera by the Boston Phoenix.
