John Whittlesey, baritone, performs regularly in opera, concert, and recital in the Boston area, having appeared with Boston Lyric Opera, the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, New England Light Opera, Cape Cod Opera, Longwood Opera, the Hackmatack Playhouse in Berwick, ME, the Center for the Arts in Natick, the Masterworks Chorale, Eastern Nazarene College, Wellesley College, the Groton School, Salisbury Singers, and Chorus North Shore.  John's roles include Count Almaviva in Le Nozze di Figaro, the Father in Hansel and Gretel, Melchior in Amahl and the Night Visitors, Silvio in I Pagliacci, Sam in Bernstein's Trouble in Tahiti, Robert Mission in Romberg's The New Moon, the lead role in Pasatieri's Signor Deluso, Ben in Menotti's The Telephone, The Traveler in Britten's Curlew River.
 
John has also created several roles, including Jim in Jeffrey Brody's The Measure of Love for Longwood Opera, Scully in Brian Hulse's The Blue Hotel at Wellesley College, Carter Winslow in Charles Shadle's A Question of Love, Thursdale in Brian Hulse's The Letter, the Announcer in Brian Hulse's The Game, Paul Verlaine in Verlaine and Rimbaud, Dr. Cyrus Pike in Thomas Oboe Lee's The Inman Diaries, and Sammy in Roger Rudenstein's Grace.  
 
Recent concert performances include Mozart's Coronation Mass, Mendelssohn's Elijah, Handel's Messiah, the Fauré Requiem, plus recitals for the North Shore Lieder Series, Kings Chapel, and Trinity English Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne.  Upcoming performances include the premiere of Charles Shadle's A Last Goodbye, Mendelssohn's St. Paul, and Britten's The Prodigal Son 
 
John holds a BA in Psychology from Wittenberg University and a Master's in Health Administration from Xavier University.   John is the Founder and Artistic Director of Intermezzo: The New England Chamber Opera Series.   He is a student of Nina Hinson and coaches with James Busby.
